Retreat Forward: Connecting with Communities in Changing Times
Council of American Jewish Museums
Goal | Cultivate deep thinking and introspection among museum professionals about the state of their field and how to improve it for a new generation.
This three-day conference in 2014 reflected on current cultural trends, the state of the Jewish museum field, strategies for strengthening Jewish museums. Balancing the theoretical and the practical, the retreat emphasized dialogue, breakout sessions, and small group discussions. Presenters and session leaders shared information and perspectives on the arrival of participatory culture and the emergence of new learning trends, changing audiences and audience expectations, new norms for civic/community engagement, and evolution within Jewish communities. As co-chair, I defined the conference program's direction, identified participants, and shaped its and format.
